Her first print issue won’t come out until later this year (founding editor Eugenia Lim will continue to take the reins for Assemble Papers’ imminent fifth issue), so consider this mix programmed by Sara as a ‘soft introduction’ to your new editor – and a little gift from us to you, to say thanks for being a part of the Assemble Papers community.
When sunlight scatters among the Earth’s upper atmosphere and illuminates the lower, it can sometimes feel as if the world is momentarily slowing to a halt. For many, the twilight time is sacred – a period for ritual and reflection – while for others it’s merely a good time to observe the sky. Incoming Assemble Papers editor Sara Savage’s feelings on twilight fall somewhere in-between: in the morning it’s her favourite time to wander on foot, regardless of destination, and in the evening it signals a window to downtime, often fuelled by nervous energy in anticipation of what the night may bring. This mix is for the latter scenario. As the poet Eileen Myles puts it, “It’s the sultriness, / the smokey approach / of the loss of / light that I love.”
