Sydneysider Alex Ward, aka Moon Holiday, brings you this mix for cooler, darker climes. A strong female electronic producer in a hyper male-dominated field, Moon Holiday has performed alongside Little Dragon, Karen O and Money Mark. Here, she shares her pre-winter “sleet mix” to add atmosphere and space for reflection to your daily, rainy commute.
Alex has themed this mix “sleet… a bunch of my favourite tracks, ones to reflect the weather since it’s been nothing but miserable lately. Notable numbers are a new release from Melbourne artist Null Luv U, Luv Me and an only-slightly pitched and slowed down version of a 2NE1 song.” From the ambient, sparse beauty of Fennesz & Ryuichi Sakamoto through to the dark London dubstep of Burial, this is “a pre-winter mix”, moody music to listen to while shuffling through snow. Or, says Alex, “on the bus home with rain streaming down the window.”
After spending most of her childhood in China, Alex and her family relocated to Australia – and music became an important outlet in this strange new context for teenage Alex. A strong female electronic producer in a hyper male-dominated field, Moon Holiday is a member of the Future Classic stable, and has performed alongside Little Dragon, Karen O and Money Mark. You may recognize Alex’s ethereal set of pipes on Flume’s Insane (a track she also co-penned). Recently, Moon Holiday has been on tour with George Maple, released a new single Prince and is keenly awaiting the imminent release of the rest of the EP Second Life.
