MPavilion 2017 launches!

When: 3 October - 4 February
How much: Free!
More info: MPavilion website

The annual MPavilion programme launches next Tuesday 3 October with a jam-packed line-up of cultural events scheduled for its opening week. Now in its fourth iteration, this year’s OMA-designed structure will light up the Queen Victoria Gardens from October to February, serving as a multi-functional landmark, performance space, venue and meeting place provoking discussions around public space, city-making and the future of Melbourne’s physical and cultural development.

Kicking off the immersive and participatory programme on Tuesday is a panel discussion featuring 2017 pavilion architects Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten (OMA) in lively conversation with a host of other celebrated speakers on the topic of how spatial design might create more meaningful features. Other highlights from the first week of free events include weekly meditation sessions, a dog-walking tour of the city, a talk by London-based architect and editor Jack Self reconsidering future models for living and a Friday evening soiree blurring the boundaries of music and performance by Melbourne-based artist Philip Brophy.

And that’s only the first week! Steer your eyes over to the website to stay up to date with the ever-evolving line-up of fun and informative workshops, tours, talks, performances and exhibitions that will take you from the gardens to beyond.
