During the 1960s and 70s, Frank and Eunice Corley drove the streets of Queensland in their pink Cadillac, taking photographs of houses and selling them to the owners as calendar inserts, Christmas cards or standalone images.
It’s estimated that the Corley’s took more than 250,000 photographs throughout South East Queensland and as far north as Bundaberg. In 1995, 61,000 of these photos were donated to the State Library of Queensland. Home: A Suburban Obsession celebrates this extraordinary body of work, that taps into the social and emotional foundations of our homes. If you can’t make it in person, the website hosts a fantastic interactive tool to explore the collection, called the ‘Corley Explorer’. The exhibition is on now until 14 July 2019.
