British journalist and filmmaker Ana Naomi de Sousa is the second series producer on Al Jazeera’s recent, ground-breaking documentary series Rebel Architecture. Each episode of the six-part series profiles a different architect who seeks to use design as a form of activism in order to effect social and political change. De Sousa is in Melbourne for the first ever Link Festival – a two-day symposium convening leading and emerging social innovators from Australia and beyond – and we’re very excited to be hosting her at a side event this coming Wednesday.
In collaboration with RMIT Design Hub and RMIT Architecture, Assemble Papers presents a double screening of two short films directed by de Sousa as part of the Rebel Architecture series. The Architecture of Violence and Guerrilla Architect follow the separate journeys of two architects – Israeli academic Eyal Weizman and Spanish activist Santiago Cirugeda – as they harness their contrasting skills to combat urgent issues facing their respective communities.
The screening is FREE, but please let us know you’re coming by emailing hello (at) assemblepapers.com.au
